The Falcons dove deep into the pool of undrafted free agents last year, and guys like quarterback Feleipe Franks made their mark on a roster that needed warm bodies. I predicted last offseason that Atlanta could sign the most undrafted free agents, and they did. This year, I didn’t expect them to sign as many, but there were some quality names left over after finishing all seven rounds of the 2022 Draft. Here is who Atlanta reportedly has signed thus far according to our friends over at The Falcoholic:
I actually featured Tyler Vrabel in a few mock drafts as Atlanta’s final sixth round pick, and I love the upside he brings to the table as a swing tackle. Kaleb McGary‘s future with the Falcons is up in the air, and they don’t have much behind either tackle in terms of young talent. Vrabel was a solid starter for Boston College, and I think there’s something there the Falcons can mold into a young asset going forward.
Berryhill wasn’t featured much in Arizona’s offense, but he was first-team Pac-12 as an all-purpose player, which means he could be a valuable special teamer that could find a role in the offense in a very thin wide receiver room.
The LSU transfer, Rosenthal, has a lot of positional flexibility — he can play inside or outside on the offensive line. Throw in the fact that the Falcons don’t have a lot of young talent on the offensive line, and Rosenthal looks like he has a decent shot to steal a roster spot. He could have easily been drafted in this cycle, and he along with Vrabel are both guys I will be watching closely.
I’m kind of surprised that Hawkins went undrafted — he was a solid run defender for the Wolverines. Hawkins spent five seasons at Michigan, and although he’s a tad undersized, he’s a guy the Falcons absolutely may take a look at with a thin safety room. If he can pick up Dean Pees’ playbook and impress in camp, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him take some snaps in 2022.
I think Landman is my favorite UDFA going into camp. My close friend who worked on staff at Colorado raved about this guy — he’s a freak athlete and a tackling machine. Landman made plays all over the field for the Buffs, and he’s the thumping inside linebacker the Falcons seem to be missing with Foye Oluokun now in Jacksonville. Troy Andersen will need some seasoning before he’s a full time starter, and Landman is a guy who can contribute right away, at least on special teams.
The teammate of new Falcon Arnold Ebiketie, Tangelo was a big part of a very solid Penn State defense for five seasons. Tangelo recorded a few sacks, but he’s mainly a stout run defender in the middle of a defensive line. Atlanta is pretty thin on the interior, so I expect Tangelo to get every opportunity to make the roster.
