Braves announce multiple critical injuries ahead of Wednesday’s game

The injury bug is something that struck the Braves in a major way last season, but through the first month of 2022, they’ve avoided it for the most part. That is… until today. Ahead of Wednesday’s series finale against the Red Sox, Brian Snitker talked about injuries to two critical players.

First and foremost, backup catcher Manny Piña will undergo surgery on his wrist and miss the remainder of the season.

Piña may not be a familiar name to Braves fans, but he’s one of the better backup catchers in the game. Losing him is a severe blow; however, the Braves do have a pretty good option in William Contreras.

Someone that is irreplaceable is Ronald Acuña, who appeared to have a problem during yesterday’s game with his surgically repaired leg. However, there is good news. It’s not a problem with the knee, and he stayed in to finish the game. Still, it is an injury nonetheless, which is why he is not in the lineup tonight. Snitker confirmed it is a groin injury, and the team is hoping it’s not something that will linger.

It’s discouraging because Acuña really seemed to be finding his groove in all facets of the game over the last week. Here’s to hoping the injury clears up quickly, and he’s good to go for the Braves weekend series against the Padres.
