Adding salt to the wound, Knicks unknowingly facilitated Hawks trade for Dejounte Murray

The Knicks have been a poverty franchise for my entire life. Whether it be the failure of a team that Phil Jackson assembled or the 2021 roster that thought they were Finals bound, New York hasn’t seen a shred of success from the Knicks since the ’70s.

Trae Young and the Hawks squashed any hope of a return to glory in the playoffs two seasons ago. In humiliating fashion, Ice Trae put on a show in Madison Square Garden, finishing the series with a gentlemen’s sweep of the sorry Knicks. But the saga between the two is still ongoing.

Atlanta traded the disgruntled Cam Reddish to New York in exchange for a first-round pick (remember this) and Kevin Knox. Reddish ended up not playing much at all and is now been rumored to be on the trading block.

Most recently, the Knicks were interested in Dejounte Murray and were one of the teams to hold trade talks with the Spurs. However, we all know how that ended up — Murray in Atlanta with Trae Young. New York once again loses.

However, a small detail of this deal paints the Knicks in a terrible light. The Hawks sent three first-round picks to the Spurs for Murray — two of their own and one from the Hornets. Well, Atlanta received that Charlotte first-rounder from the Knicks in the Reddish trade, pouring salt on the wound.

Despite Madison Square Garden and the Knicks being basketball royalty, they’ve been one of the sorriest franchises in sports for the last 20 years. And it only gets better. They traded away a bevy of players to create the cap room to give Jalen Brunson (!!!!) a near-max contract… let’s check in on how that affected their shot at returning to glory:

The Hawks will now remain relevant for the next decade while the Knicks will look to rebuild in four years (probably). Just another dub for the boys down south. CAWWWWW CAWWWWW
