Braves: Kenley Jansen moves to 10th on all-time saves list ahead of Dodgers series

The Braves may have said goodbye to Freddie Freeman as he signed with the cross-country rival Dodgers, but the Braves welcomed a man who spent his entire career in that dreadful Dodger Blue. Atlanta signed long-time Los Angeles closer Kenley Jansen to a very palatable one-year, $16 million deal. Despite being 34 years old, Jansen is still one of the most dominant closers in all of baseball. And on Thursday against the Giants and ahead of the weekend series against his former club, the big man earned his 19th save of the year for career save No. 209, which puts him 10th all-time in saves.

Those 19 saves are third in Major League Baseball, behind only Josh Hader and Taylor Rogers (21). Even though he’s boasting a 3.23 ERA, he’s been lockdown out of the Arm Barn. He’s been an excellent free-agent addition; Jansen is consistent, dominant, and someone the Dodgers (and the rest of the league) don’t want to see in the ninth frame.

This weekend will be emotional for Jansen and Freeman, but nobody will feel sorry for themselves when they step on the field.
