Report: Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium could host 2025 CFB Playoff National Championship

The College Football Playoffs could be returning to Atlanta. Officials are negotiating a deal to have the city replace Las Vegas as host of the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship, according to Brett McMurphy of Action Network.

McMurphy reports Vegas and CFP representatives couldn’t resolve an issue with the annual Consumer Electronics Show, which draws 200,000 visitors to the Entertainment Capital of the World. The CES is also held in January and the two sides were unable to come to a resolution.

“There was a request to move CES a week, which wasn’t happening, and Las Vegas asked the CFP to move the title game back a week later,” a source said told McMurphy. “But there was no dice there either.”

If Atlanta does in fact host the 2025 game, it’ll be the only city other than Miami to host two College Football Playoff title games — the first coming in 2018. Mercedes-Benz Stadium has become quite the setting for big events since opening in 2017.

It hosted Super Bowl LIII in 2019, which was the first time Atlanta had hosted the big game since Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000. As stated before, the stadium also hosted the 2018 CFP National Championship, which was the first since 1982. The Peach Bowl, Celebration Bowl, SEC Championship Game, and Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game are also held there annually.

Safe to say, if you’re living in the Atlanta area, you’ll have an excellent chance to see some big college football games.
