Mitt Romney Rips Marjorie Taylor Greene: “I’m reminded of the old line from the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid movie where one character says, ‘morons, I have morons on my team’”

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) trashed two House Republicans after they attended a conference hosted by Nick Fuentes at the Orlando World Center Marriott. The event is counter-programming to the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) event held in Orlando.

“Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar, I don’t know them,” Romney said on CNN. “I’m reminded of the old line from the ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’ movie, where one character says, ‘Morons, I have morons on my team.’

“I would think that anybody that would sit down with a white nationalist and speak at their conference would certainly be missing a few IQ points,” Romney added.

“I don’t know what his views are, so I’m not aligned with anything that may be controversial,” Greene told CBS News.

“I went to his event last night to address his very large following because that is a young, very young, following and a generation I am extremely concerned about.”

Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.) said:

“As Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rep Paul Gosar speak at this white supremacist, anti-Semitic, pro-Putin event, silence by Republican Party leaders is deafening and enabling.

“All Americans should renounce this garbage and reject the Putin wing of the GOP now.”

Over at CPAC, Trump won the straw poll for the 2024 GOP primary with Ron DeSabtis a distant second.

From CNN:

Former President Donald Trump easily won an informal straw poll of conservatives Sunday, when asked who they would support in a GOP primary for president in 2024.

Among attendees as the Conservative Political Action Conference, 59% said they would vote for Trump if the 2024 Republican primary were held today.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis came in second with 28% of the vote in the poll. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo came in a distant third with 2% of the vote.

The straw poll, which covers conference attendees, is not a scientific survey and does not represent the larger GOP electorate.

While Trump breezed to the top of the potential Republican field, it was by a smaller margin than when CPAC conducted a similar straw poll last summer. During that informal poll in July 2021, Trump topped the GOP field with support from 70% of conference attendees, compared to 21% who selected DeSantis last year.

If Trump decides not to run in 2024, DeSantis emerged as the top pick for CPAC attendees this week.
