Breaking: Hawks trade Kevin Huerter to the Kings

The second Woj bomb of the Hawks offseason has been dropped; this time it involves Kevin Huerter, who is heading to Sacramento for Justin Holiday, Mo Harkless, and a 2024 lottery-protected first-round pick.

For the Hawks, this trade appears to be all about the first-round pick as well as clearing cap space. Justin Holiday is a solid 3-and-D wing that started in 65 games last year and averaged over 10 points a game. Ironically, the Hawks just signed his brother, Aaron Holiday, to a one-year deal earlier today.

Huerter was about to enter the first year of a four-year, $70 million extension he signed with Hawks last offseason. I’m not going to say he isn’t worth that money, because he is a solid piece that will be missed, but this is likely just the first domino to fall in Travis Schlenk’s next plan. The cap relief the Hawks get in this trade and the first-round pick could be parlayed into another big move. Atlanta said they were going to shake things up, and they already have considerably, but we are not anywhere close to the final product.
