Braves: Ronald Acuña Jr. likely to miss at least one more game with injury

Following Thursday’s 8-4 victory over the Phillies, Brian Snitker told the media that superstar outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. has a grade 1 quad strain, and would most likely miss tomorrow’s game. As reported by David O’Brien of The Athletic, there’s no set timeframe for Ronald’s return, but he will hopefully only miss a game or two.

Muscle strains, more commonly called “pulls,” fall into into three grades numbered 1-3 by severity. Grade 1 is the least severe, and is only accompanied by mild pain and minimal loss of strength, if any. The problem with muscle strains is that even a grade 1 injury can require a week or two of recovery, and if you return to full activity too early, you run the risk of re-injuring the muscle. Since a strain is just a very small partial tear of the muscle, subsequent injuries to the same muscle group tend to be more severe.

O’Brien mentioned that Acuña was sore on Tuesday, but it sure didn’t seem to slow him down; Ronald played right field in a win over the Phillies, racking up two hits, three RBI, and scoring the winning run on William Contreras’ walkoff single. While his 29-game on-base streak ended this week, his presence on the field will be sorely missed, even just for another game or two. I hope this injury only costs Ronald one more game, but muscles strains have a way of nagging athletes for an annoying amount of time.
