Kyle Pitts among finalists for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year

Terry Fontenot hit a home run with the first draft pick of his general manager career, but it was somewhat of a no-brainer to select Kyle Pitts fourth overall. He was easily the best non-quarterback prospect, which has shown his rookie year. Physically, Pitts is a freak. He can run the entire route tree from anywhere on the field against any coverage, can make contested catches look effortless, and threaten defenses after the catch.

It is only a matter of time before he breaks every tight end record, but for now, he’s had an excellent start to his NFL career. Pitts became the first rookie tight end in 60 years to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards; he’s also now the Falcons’ all-time leading rookie receiver, which Julio Jones held for a decade. A pretty impressive beginning for the former Florida Gator, but those aren’t the only records he broke.

Against the Lions, Pitts passed Tony Gonzalez for the most single-season receiving yards in team history from a tight end. Pitts was rewarded for his outstanding season by being named to the Pro Bowl — the first rookie tight end to make it since Jeremy Shockey in 2002.

Pitts is considered by many as one of the best rookies in the league and was selected as a Pepsi Rookie of the Year finalist. He joins Ja’Marr Chase, Najee Harris, Mac Jones, Micah Parsons, and Jaylen Waddle.
